Hourglass Create a Soft Focus Skin Filter With Extended Veil Collection

Hourglass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray and Eye Primer

A silk slip for the skin, light-reflecting powder particles and an ultra-fine mist designed to blur the complexion. Hourglass Cosmetics have extended their now-cult Veil collection by two new products, formulated to wash the skin with a soft-focus filter and create the illusion of a fine veil between onlookers eyes and your skin.

The preexisting Veil collection was comprised of two products (both long-standing favourites of mine)- the Veil Mineral Primer, a lightweight, oil free primer that glides over the skin to create something of a silk canvas for foundation, and the Veil Translucent Setting Powder, a finely milled loose powder formulated with soft-focus, light-reflecting particles.

Hourglass Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray and Eye PrimerThe aforementioned primer sits at the core of the Hourglass collection, a best-seller and hero product that revolutionised the primer category by containing no oil and delivering the skin with a texture it had never felt before- one akin to air, water and silk at once.

The extended collection is designed to be used with the existing range, each product formulated to work seamlessly with the next to deliver a veil finish. Skin is left with an almost surreal appearance, as though the complexion has been bathed in a soft focus filter.

Hourglass’ Veil Soft Focus Setting Spray is the brand’s hero launch of the season, a mist formulated to set makeup in place with water resistant properties and blur the surface of the skin while maintaining radiance, as though a filter has been applied. This launch is joined by the Veil Eye Primer, a hydrating formula for the eyes in a texture not dissimilar to the original Veil primer, but with a nude tint designed to colour correct the eyelid and enhance the pigment of your eyeshadow.

I have found Hourglass’ new launches to perform as well as the existing collection- a collection that had already changed the way I look at primers and powders. As I prefer my skin to have a dewy finish, I long steered clear of primers and powders for fear of mattifying my complexion. The Veil Primer and Translucent Powder entirely changed my perception of their respective categories, proving that the skin can be both primed and set while maintaining the glow I wish to emit at all times. As per their predecessors, the new Soft Focus Setting Spray and Eye Primer have proved that foundation can be firmly locked into place without being dried down to the concrete finish I had once assumed was necessary for a base that lasts.

While I have not had the opportunity to test the brand’s 24 hour claim on account of I have nowhere to go, the finish on the skin is indeed soft-focus and light-reflecting, with the full collection working cohesively to keep foundation in place for as many hours as I could possibly wish to sit on my couch in a full face of makeup with no company. Isolation is bleak, my skin is not.
