Where traditionally girly pink was given a modern update today, lipstick was simultaneously repurposed as an eye, cheek and lip stain.
“What’s really cool about this look,” Lancôme Australia Makeup Director Lara Srokowski tells me ahead of today’s C/MEO runway, “is that we’ve gone monochromatic with it. We’ve used the same shade on the eyes, the cheeks and on the lips.”
The shade of choice comes in the form of a L’Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick in the shade 335 Moderato, a true rose pink. After creating Lancôme signature skin on each model (a techique Lara shared with me earlier in the week), a wash of colour was applied to the eyelids, cheeks and lips.
“We’ve used a big fluffy eyeshadow brush to work the colour into the lash line, then we’ve blended it up towards the brow bone to create a gradient,” Lara explains. “The colour is deeper at lashes and fades up and into the skin. To give the eyelids a glossy finish, a lick of Rosy Plump Gloss was applied as a topcoat before each model took to the runway. Brows are then brushed up and out, but brow gels were cast aside in favour of a more feathered, “fluffy” look.
Rather than following a traditional approach to cheek colour application, the team have sourced inspiration and techniques from overseas to create the most youthful finish possible. “We’ve used the same colour on the cheeks to give the complexion a freshness, but we haven’t put it on the apple- we’ve put it higher,” says Lara. “That’s a Korean trend that I learnt. The reason why they apply their blush that bit higher, almost under the eye, is that it keeps the skin looking more youthful. It’s all about looking nice and fresh and young.”
To create a lip stain, rather than an opaque lip colour, the lipstick was pressed into the lips with the fingertips. “We wanted it to look like more of a stain with diffused edges,” notes Lara.
The look is finished with a mist of rose stem cell infused Absolute L’Extrait Essense, which Lara tells me “adds a subtle wash of luminosity over the skin.”
We’ve finished the look by spraying the skin with the rose mist to add a subtle wash of luminosity over the skin.
