Christophe Robin Shares The Hair Mistake We’re ALL Making

The following is an excerpt from the Glow Journal Podcast. You can listen to the full interview now on iTunes and Spotify

At age 14, Christophe Robin began his first apprenticeship in a hair salon. At 17, he was scouted and moved to Paris. By age 24, Christophe Robin had opened his own hair salon and was looking after the likes of Linda Evangelista, Claudia Schiffer and Stephanie Seymour. Today, his products are sold in over 30 countries worldwide- and he’s ready to share his haircare secrets. In this excerpt from the Glow Journal podcast, Christophe Robin reveals the trick to making your hair unbreakable, how to tackle your first grey hair and the styling mistake we make almost every day that could be causing premature hair loss.

Christophe Robin on the Australian approach to hair colour…

“It has evolved a lot in the last five years. Australians used to use a lot of bleach and add a lot of highlights, but now I see more and more natural colour. I see that people are willing to learn so much more about scalp care as well as hair care.”

On his newest release- the Temporary Colour Gel…

“There was nothing like it on the market. For a girl who has a natural hair colour, what are you going to do when you have your first grey? You don’t want heavy the maintenance of regrowth, you don’t want the aggression of chemicals on the scalp. The hair colour gel is just a tool to cover your first greys without chemistry and without ugly regrowth. It’s going to age in a beautiful way as it lasts five to eight shampoos. It’s truly something fun to play with to avoid heavy maintenance and brassiness.”

On his all-time favourite products…

“I have my beloved products, and I have my best-sellers. My beloved products are the first products I released- my Lavender Oil and my Cleansing Mask with Lemon. For bleached, blonde and highlighted hair, you should use a mask every week. The Prickly Pear Seed Oil is truly a great mask, too. That oil, I found it in Morocco, and when I came back to the lab I said “We should make something out of that oil,” and they said “You’re crazy, it costs a thousand Euros per litre.” The Sea Salt Scrub is another game changer. Everybody is playing so much with dry shampoo, and their scalp is disgusting. The scalp becomes greasy, and a greasy scalp is one of the first causes of hair loss. We want to fight against that, and the Sea Salt Scrub is a great way to do that.”

On the most common hair colour mistakes…

“Some people just want to be somebody else, and it doesn’t work. Stay true to yourself. It’s like with makeup. People say “My makeup doesn’t hold onto my skin,” because your skin is dry. It’s the same with hair. If the hair is fried, the colour won’t hold.”

On his hair colour commandments…

“One a week, sleep with my Lavender Oil on your hair. It’s truly something that’s going to make your hair thick, strong and unbreakable and it will make your colour last much longer. Hydration is key.”

On what we can expect to see in 2019…

“This I don’t know! There are no trends anymore. Thanks to social media, everybody embraces their personality and expresses that, whether it’s crazy or very natural. The only thing I believe is coming back in every country I go to is comfort. If they go blonde, they want to keep the roots so they don’t have to do it so often. They want peace and comfort.”
