Beauty News | New Arrivals from Hermès, Ellis Brooklyn and NARS

Fragrance inspired by the harvest, a capsule collection from a private island and a reincarnation of a 1990s handbag essential- these are the biggest beauty products to arrive on Australian shelves this month.

  • Jo Malone Poppy & Barley Cologne

The first day of Spring sees Jo Malone London’s Poppy & Barley cologne, once a limited edition, promoted to the brand’s permanent collection. Initially released within the English Fields capsule, Poppy & Barley opens on a bouquet of scents borrowed from England’s meadows- notes of green, rose, violet and blackcurrant- cocooned by grains of bran and barley.
Jo Malone London Poppy & Barley Cologne, 30ml, $99, available from September 1.

Hermès too delivers a new fragrance this season in the shape of Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée, a peppered twist on the house’s original Twilly d’Hermès parfum. The fragrance opens on vibrant pink peppercorn, settles into a heart of rose before drying down to a base of warm, spicy patchouli.
Hermès Twilly d’Hermès Eau Poivrée Eau De Parfum, 85ml, $199.

This month sees the arrival of Ellis Brooklyn’s WEST, the eighth scent by the New York based niche fragrance house. WEST is the brand’s first true citrus, inspired by 1970s Los Angeles through notes of blood orange, clementine and lemon nestled in the spice and wood of oakmoss, vetiver and amber.
Ellis Brooklyn West EDP, 50ml, $161.

This month’s final fragrance launch of note is Eau D’Italie’s Easy To Love- a sweet, fruity cocktail of white currant, fig, peony, honey, tonka and musk mallow.
Eau D’Italie Easy To Love EDP, 100ml, $219.

August sees the arrival of NARS’ Private Island collection wash upon Australian shores, inspired by Motu Tane, the Polynesian island purchased by Françoise Nars in the year 2000. Selects from the capsule collection that have landed on my desk are the Naked Paradise Satin Lip Pencil Set (consisting of Tahaa, a warm pink brown, Vahine, a warm coral, Morea, a dusy rose and Raiatea, a Cinnamon), Motu Tane Face Palette (consisting of classic Laguna with limited edition blush and highlight shades Makatea and Manava), the Afterglow Lip Balm Duo (a set of miniature Orgasm and Hidden Pleasure tinted balms) and the Hot Tropic Lip Gloss Coffret (four limited edition glosses- Tua Motu, a soft shimmering beige, Marquesas, a sheer nude, Tetiaroa, a cool-toned pink and Huahine, a bright hot coral.

In a similar colour palette comes a collection of new cheek colours from the doyenne of natural beauty, RMS’ Rose Marie Swift. The brand’s new Pressed Blush powder comes in three shades- Crushed Rose (pictured, a vibrant modern pink), Moon Cry, a rich plum wine with a hint of golden sheen and Lost Angel, a coral pink with gold undertones. The Sensual Skin Trio contains three powders, as finely milled as the aforementioned Pressed Blush, in shades inspired by the brand’s cult luminisers and Lip2cheek tints.
RMS Pressed Blush, $37.
RMS Sensual Skin Trio, $49.

Following the success of Mecca Max’s Beauty Queen and Desert Queen palettes comes the third instalment of Mecca Maxima’s signature line palette collection- Sugar Queen, an offering of 15 pigments for cheeks and eyes.
Mecca Max Sugar Queen Palette, $38.

This week heralds the arrival of a new lip salve to the Lanolips portfolio. The Original Lanostick, a wind-up, solid balm version of the brand’s cult 101 Ointment and squeeze balms, contains less of a gloss finish than the brand’s previous formulas and is described as “90s inspired.”
Lanolips Original Lanostick, $18.95.

For the body, Chantecaille deliver both a Retinol Body Treatment and a Retinol Hand Cream. Both updated formulas work to repair, firm and brighten the skin through improved cell turnover and the skin retexturising properties of pure retinol.
Chantecaille Retinol Body Treatment, $149.
