The New Glitter Eye Backstage for Bazaar Bride | VAMFF 2018

Loose glitter eyeshadow can conjure up visions of primary school birthday parties at the best of times, so when I learned that the humble glitter pot would be key during the VAMFF 2018 Bridal Runway, I was sceptical. Glitter, especially loose pigments, lends itself to over-the-top, festival-ready application. How could could glitter be appropriated for the modern bride on a day that usually includes a “I just want to look like the best version of myself” beauty brief?

VAMFF 2018 Backstage Premium Runway 4For last night’s Bridal Runway, presented by BAZAAR Bride Australia, festival Makeup Director Sarah Laidlaw took all the whimsy of old-school glitter makeup and pared it back with fresh, glowing skin for a bridal beauty look that was nothing short of ethereal. As each model stepped into the runway light, they looked as though they’d been sprinkled with fairy dust rather than heavy glitter flecks. The trick? Applying the pigment to other parts of the face, rather than limiting the application to the eyelid.

The look began with fresh, dewy complexions, with each model sporting a base of taupe eyeshadow. Shimmer was applied in the form of the AUSTRALIS Shimmer Pigment Pot in Taupe which appeared bronze on the skin but reflected as mother of pearl beneath the runway lights. A Real Techniques Bold Metals 200 Oval Shadow Brush was used to work the pigment into the inner-corners of the eyes to brighten the eye area, then additional pigment was pressed into the cheeks, temples and cupid’s bow to give the skin an almost other-worldly glow.

Where precise application of a creamy, pressed glitter formula to the eyelids would have created uniformity on the runway, the effect of the loose glitter gave the look more wedding day whimsy, particularly when teamed with glistening veils and delicate jewel encrusted gowns.
