From deep within the thorn of the Australian bush comes Munlark Ash- the newest addition to the Mihan Aromatics portfolio and your new winter scent.
Arboreal and resinous, Munlark Ash serves as something of a tribute to the landscape, its name honouring the Australian Blue Cypress Tree traditionally known as ‘Munlark’ by the Rembarrnga people of the Northern Territory, and its scent lovingly including notes of cedar wood, crushed fir needles and tree sap. The parfum is described by Mihan Aromatics founders Julia Brown and Joshua Mihan as celebrating the “complexity of Australia’s flora and fauna, alongside the Indigenous Australians to whom it belongs.”
The scent itself is beautiful and without gender, sitting between woody, smoky and green and fusing its cedar notes with evergreen botanicals, ash and rich spices. The scent sits undisturbed on the skin for a full day, something I find to be true of the entire Mihan Aromatics parfum portfolio. Munlark Ash feels, to me, like something of a literal interpretation of winter, outdoors, at dusk- “literal” in the same vein as the entire Mihan Aromatics collection, as each of their scents has been created to feel “familial” and evocative of shared memories.
To herald the release of Munlark Ash, Mihan Aromatics have collaborated with artist Heath Wae to transform the fragrance’s packaging. Wae’s work celebrates the ritualistic ceremonies that unfold under the dense canopy of Australian Blue Cypress trees, with the packaging acting a a visual interpretation of the scent.
Munlark Ash is available now via Mihan Aromatics.
