Glossy Skin Backstage for Harper’s Bazaar | VAMFF 2018

  • VAMFF 2018 Backstage Premium Runway 3

If there’s one runway-dominating trend that I hope can transcend both time and space, it’s skin that still looks like skin. While there’s an art to matte contouring and serious face sculpting, I can’t help but feel as though fresh, natural, almost glossy skin delivers a kinder message- why use makeup to change the entire shape of your face when you could be just use makeup to enhance what you’ve already got?

Glossy skin was the order of the day at Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival’s Premium Runway 3, presented by Harper’s Bazaar Australia. Under the creative direction of Sarah Laidlaw, the natural tone and texture of each model’s skin was enhanced, rather than covered, using L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation applied using a Real Techniques Blend & Blur Foundation Brush to work the product into the skin. Concealer, in the form of the Innoxa Colour Correcting Concealer Pen, was used sparingly to brighten the skin rather than to conceal blemishes, while cult favourite all-purpose beauty balm Egyptian Magic Cream was applied to the high planes of the face to give the skin a glossy finish.

While half of the models sported nude lips and half wore true red, each lip was coated in iridescent gloss to catch the runway light and mimic the glow of the skin. The red lip of choice was L’Oreal Paris’ Color Riche Made for Me Intense in Perfect Red, a red with universally flattering neutral undertones and a high-gloss formula.

All products used backstage at this year’s 2018 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival are available in store and online via the festival’s Hair & Makeup Partner, Priceline Pharmacy.
