Skin bathed in rose petals, eyes awash with pearls. This is the vision for By Terry’s limited edition collection for Summer 2020- Sunny Flash Glow.
Despite a winter launch in the Southern Hemisphere, the collection is appropriately summer-inspired and suited to the country of its inception, France, rendering it ideal for those of us longing for sunkissed skin and a Côte d’Azur getaway as our home temperatures steadily decline.
The arguable hero piece of the collection is the Sunny Flash Brightening CC Palette, comprising four finely milled convertible cheek to eye colours housed within an ornate rose emblazoned compact. The powders are designed, primarily, to highlight. Each limited edition shade has been developed using what the brand call “optical glow technology,” meaning fine light reflecting pigments work to create a soft focus finish on the skin. The powders work to colour correct using similar tech to the brand’s signature Brightening CC Serums, the liquid product the powders were inspired by, using the same formula (in new colours) as the Brightening CC Powders available as part of the brand’s permanent line. The rose, a defining characteristic and ingredient of the both By Terry’s skincare and colour cosmetics, lends its scent, image, hue and regenerative properties to each powder.
The aforementioned light reflecting pigments do have the appearance of a shimmer, so most will find these powders work best when limited to specific areas (the cheeks, brow bone, eyelids and cupid’s bow) rather than to the entire face. The powders themselves are richly pigmented shades of a champagne-pearl hybrid (Champagne Blush), natural tea rose (Pink Petal), just-pinched pink (Vibrant Rose) and gold-flecked sandy bronze (Desert Sparkle), all of which work to lift the complexion and add a summer glow in line with the collection’s name and season of release.
Another limited edition release reflective of the existing Brightening CC Serum collection are the Summer 2020 Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadows. Now available in Sunny Flash, Rose Elixir and Immaculate Light, By Terry’s Ombre Blackstars are stalwarts of my makeup bag, earning their places amongst my all-time favourite eyeshadow formulas (no mean feat).
Encased within crayon-esque applicators, these cream shadows are designed to be scrawled across the eyelid and blended out with either the finger or a brush or worked more precisely into the lash line, performing as well individually as they do when blended together. The formulas are enriched with Tahitian black pearls extracts, reflecting the light and delivering an iridescent finish that, despite shimmer, I find to sit well on skin of all ages.
Completing By Terry’s 2020 Summer Collection is the Brightening CC Blush, available in a universal hue- Rosy Flash. The consistency feels the same as the aforementioned CC Serums, however I find the pigment to be richer given it is designed to sit atop the skin, rather than sinking in to create a base. As per the By Terry range in its entirety, the Brightening CC Blush is enriched with rose extract, emitting the scent of rose petals on contact with the skin.
The By Terry Sunny Flash Glow 2020 limited edition collection is available in Australia and New Zealand now at mecca.com.au.
